This was not really a commissioned piece. I painted it for my husband, Rev. Sonny, as a Christmas present. This is our big ole' hound-dog, "Lonesome". We found him while driving on top of the mountains, on the "Blue Ridge Parkway",  late in November one day.  There stood Lonesome on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere, looking like he was lost ,and had lost his best friend as well! He had no collar. He was nothing but a skeleton draped with fur! It was freezing cold. We couldn't leave him! We took him home, fed him, got him warm, and had him checked-out by the vet. We named him, "Lonesome", because that's how he looked. He looks sad even when he's happy! We found out during hunting season, that he is scared of guns and gunshots...."gun-shy". Around our area bear hunters use dogs in packs to chase the bears and finally corner them. When they raise the dogs in packs they have to fight for their food, and sleeping quarters. If they won't hunt, or are gun-shy, they are either shot, or abandoned, like Lonesome was. It's terrible but true!

Lonesome is a sweet, big, "dufus-dog" who thinks he's a lot smaller than he really is! We are blessed to have him!
