This slate of Mr. Eugene Bridgewater and his dog, "Nayla", was commissioned by Mr. Bridgewater's son and daughter-in-law as a Christmas present. Mr. Bridgewater was a farmer in Nelson County, Virginia. He loved to go out to the pasture each day with his trusty dog, "Nayla". They would ride in his old pick-up truck and take hay to the cattle.
Nayla, had passed away and Mr. Bridgewater had loved her greatly. Sadly, Mr. Bridgewater had in-operable cancer, and passed away the next year. The slate is cherished by the family as a reminder of happier times.
This is one of the few times I agreed to paint a "human" in my painting! But, how could I have refused?
