This old fire truck sits in a field in Syria, Virginia, near Culpeper and Charlottesville, Virginia. I have done art shows in the spring and fall for years at a place called, Grave's Mt. Lodge, located there. The truck was behind our booth. I thought I'd better paint it before it rusted away! A local gentleman who came into my booth at one show, told me he'd walked past the fire truck on his way to elementary school in the 1940's and it looked much the same as it did then! Even the rubber tires are still intact! It has a crank on the front to start the engine, (which is missing), and the initials, "GEM", on the radiator. The inside of the truck is wood, including the seat. There are hooks on the sides for maybe hoses, or ladders. Anyhow, it's a relic! So are the old oak trees, maybe hundreds of years old. The stone & split-rail wall in the background is from before the Civil War. The mountains in the background are perhaps among the oldest in the world! Looking straight back is Old Rag Mountain, near Luray, and the Shenandoah Valley on the other side.

The Bible Scripture title on this scene is:

"Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me. When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street."

- Job 29: 2, 7
