An Amish farmer holds one of a pair of Belgian draft horses while the farrier, (horseshoer), works on the giant hoof of the other horse. It's fall, and the horses need a new set of shoes to carry them through the winter. The gray farm cat rubs against the farmer's leg while the farmer chews on a piece of straw as he watches the farrier do his job. The old barn is in need of repair itself! You can see the Amish buggy sitting under the overhang on the barn. The "Blue Ridge Mountains" are in the background. The farm is in the "Shenandoah Valley" of Virginia.

The actual scene was a farm not far from Waynesboro, Virginia, just beside State Route 250. A week after I painted it, someone tore down the barn....to the rock foundation!
