A cowboy relaxes with his leg resting across the saddle-horn of his saddle. He pauses from a long day of rounding up the herd of mixed-breed beef cattle with the other cowboys. This is based on a cousin of mine Phil George, now in his upper 80's. Phil and his wife, Judy, live in northeastern Kansas on a cattle ranch with 3 sections of land. (A "section", in case you don't know, is, one mile square. It sounds like, and is, a lot of land. But, only one of their sections has water on it!) Phil is a "real" cowboy. All his adult life he has ridden his horse every day to check on his cattle. People have asked me if I know how many cattle I painted in the scene? My reply is, "No. Because a lot of them are behind the hills!"
The Bible Scripture title on the painting is:
"For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills."
- Psalm 50: 10
