When I said we didn't have any roses, I forgot about the Rugoso roses. They are hardy and very fragrant. They also have a gazillion tiny thorns that hurt like anything when you get stuck...and your can't help it, if you don't wear gloves and long pants! They remind me of "old fashioned", or wild roses. The bloom lasts only one day, but they have a cluster of buds that open one at a time. They grow "rose hips", (orange "fruits") that are kind of lemony and full of vitamin C, at the same time as they are blooming.
